Anthony Ausgang
7 Jun 2018 — 7 Jul 2018

Yves Laroche Art Gallery is proud to present the exhibition Un Chat Andalou – the newest production from American artist Anthony Ausgang – from June 7th to July 7th 2018. The opening will take place this Thursday June 7th from 5pm to 9pm.

Influenced by cartoons, including Tex Avery, Anthony Ausgang’s paintings are full of dynamism in both substance and form. At the crossroads of computer art and traditional art, his acrylics on canvas works have a psychedelic prerogative. The fictional world of Ausgang comes in distorted figures where movement can suggest that they are moving in front of our eyes.

Anthony Ausgang is celebrated as one of the founding fathers of pop surrealism aka “lowbrow”, a movement that emerged on the American West Coast in the 1970s. Born in Trinidad and Tobago in 1959 and now working in Los Angeles for almost thirty years, his works are deeply rooted in popular culture of cartoons, surfing and hot rods.
